Founder’s Story

Karina von Middendorf, the founder of Bush Girl Safaris, was raised in Northern California, where she was immersed in a rich tapestry of outdoor experiences and conservation initiatives. Inspired by her godfather, a seasoned outdoorsman and world traveler renowned as the “Great White Hunter”, Karina was captivated by his enthralling tales of African adventures and hunting safaris. These stories ignited her imagination and fostered a profound desire to explore Africa’s diverse wildlife and rich cultural heritage.

An avid outdoorswoman, conservationist and hunter, Karina is an advocate for ethical and sustainable hunting. She is passionate about the African
Philosophy of Ubuntu,  its principles of ‘I am because we are.” This philosophy reflects her conviction that as visitors to Africa, we must give back more than we take. Recognizing that our actions impact the larger community, continent and world, she aims to empower women through outdoor pursuits and encourages a lifestyle that fosters this interconnection.

Bush Girl Safaris was founded as a women’s travel initiative, dedicated to
creating meaningful experiences that empower women to engage in sustainable hunting, wildlife conservation and cultural exchange. By
providing accessible opportunities, the initiative fosters a deeper connection to Africa, its people and diverse wildlife, ultimately inspiring a commitment to sustainable practices, the preservation natural ecosystems and the spirit of Ubuntu.
